Sew Fashionable!

Happy Thursday honeymuffins!!

Okay I am SOOO excited about today!! I finally get to show you what I've been cookin' up Smiley from millan.net  ... okay, not like that, but I do get to show off what I did with the Taylored Expressions exclusive April Key Ingredients Kit.

Our challenge this month was to create a shaped card, and to add a bit of sewing!  Well, give me those two things and I am in heaven!!  Smiley from millan.net

This month's kit is seriously gorgeous!! It features the new and super-delish "Material Girl" paper from Cosmo Cricket, with lots of yummy ribbon and sewing-themed embellishments! UGH!! I can't stand so much cuteness - it's almost like looking in the mirror! (I just totally threw that in there to see if anyone actually reads my nonsense!!) tee-hee..

Okay so, one of the things I LOVE to collect are retro-style aprons, and they were definitely the inspiration for my card today:

VintageDressFrontSM

I drew up a template for my card so that it looked like a vintage dress complete with a very retro apron, and my Material Girl Paper was just perfect for it!!

I used the same patterned paper "lining" template to make a sentiment panel for the inside of my card using Choice Buttercream Cardstock (also included in the monthly kit), and you can see how that looks inside here:

Is that too stinkin' cute or what??  I then drew a pattern for my little apron, which I stitched together and embellished with this delicious red ribbon.  My apron's pocket is "faux-stitched" using my paper-piercer and white gel pen.

The apron is attached to my card using foam squares - only on the "ruffle" area though.  I used Sticky Tape to adhere the waist part to my card so that it only looked slightly raised from the bottom.  It really gives it a nice bit of dimension! I used my trusty and SO amazing Mono-Multi glue to add the ric-rac to my dress, and then used more sticky tape and some glue dots to attach the whole thing to my Cardstock panel.

Of course, you may have noticed I can't help myself so I distressed everything using my daubers and my Vintage Photo Distress Ink, sigh.. So do you love it??

I hope so, but WAIT! there's more because I thought my dress looked a little lonely and decided to make a little matching tea holder to go with it!

VintageTeaCloseSM

This was so easy and fun!! I took a 4 1/4" by 6 1/2" piece of CS, and scored it 3/4" on the 4 1/4" side and scored the 6 1/2" side at 3 1/4" so that it would fold in half.  I made a little notch on the inside "flaps" (at the inside score line) so that it would fold neatly, and then added some more of that gorgeous ribbon from the kit!  Easy peasy! here's how it looks when it opens up!

I decorated the front using small pieces that were left from my dress and apron, and of course, I had one more excuse (as if I needed it!!) to use my beeeyuutiful label stamp and sentiment from my CreativiTEA stamp set.  I cut out the yellow mat for my image using my Labels 9 Nesties, and sponged everything up using my distress ink.

Here's a look at my set:

DO we agree this is totally retro??Smiley from millan.net
